Peach And Kale Smoothie

Peach And Kale Smoothie

Peaches are in season! Grab a basket of fresh Ontario ( or your local) peaches, and get prepared to use the ones that look a little bit beaten up ( very ripe) in the peach smoothie. Don’t forget to remove the skin. Unfortunately, peaches are on the top of the “dirty dozen” – the list of fruit and veggies overly polluted with pesticides.

This peach kale smoothie recipe is very simple. What it does is it keeps you satiated for a long, long time. By the way, don’t credit peaches for that. Peaches are high in Vitamin A and other good nutrients, but they provide only a simple sugar (fructose) to your smoothie.

The ingredient that keeps you satiated is hemp hearts.

If you never tried hemp hearts aka hemp seeds, please go to the health food store and buy at least a small pack. They are not cheap. There are places where you can get them at the wholesale price. Help hearts contain high quality plant protein and high amount of Omega-3s. So this smoothie doesn’t just keep you full, it helps to reduce cholesterol, lower blood pressure, improve brain function and so on.

Remember, it does the same to your kids’ brains. Tasty smoothie ( peaches plus banana) that makes them smarter (hemp hearts) and their bones stronger (kale)

If you don’t have hemp hearts, perhaps, you have chia seeds or flax seeds. They will be a next best superfood replacement for your smoothie.

So, without further ado, here is the recipe that even a child can blend:

Kale Peach Smoothie

Ingredients:
  • 1 banana
  • 2 peaches
  • 2 big ( 4 small) leaves of kale
  • 3 tbsp hemp hearts ( or max 2 tbsp chia seeds or flax seeds)
  • Water to taste
Directions:

Peel peaches and take the stone out. Peel bananas. Cut the stem out of kale. Put everything in the blender and add water to taste. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses. Wash the blender :)

Some people like to drink it, others eat it with a spoon. Experiment with the amount of water. Start with ½ cup and add more. You can store it in the fridge for up to 1 day.
